Winter Wedding at Plantation on Sunnybrook | Roanoke Wedding Photographer
Our first wedding of 2021 was a COLD ONE!! The wind, the below 40 degree temps, and partially cloudy skies were all a contributing factor but of course you’d never be able to tell from the photos! David and Carleigh had different plans for their wedding day but unfortunately due to the lockdown restrictions their day had to be adjusted like most of my 2020 couples.
I so badly wanted to change everything to make the day perfect because Carleigh has been my best friend since we were in DIAPERS! I so badly wanted that day to be perfect for her!! She did the same for me on my wedding day in 2015! 🙂
Seriously though, I have known her, her entire life! I have such fond memories with her playing our favorite computer games (Nancy Drew Mysteries!), learning how to swim in her pool, playing dress up, going on spy adventures, etc. Oh to be young again haha But even though we led different lives as we grew up, we still kept in touch often. Our wine nights will be missed so much sweet friend!! But I am so glad you found your best friend for life!
And let me tell you, this wedding was emotional for so many reasons. Carleigh had to say good bye to her family because is she moving out west to Illinois with David after the honeymoon! Being hours away from family can so hard, especially when you are as close to your family as the Studtmann’s are. Seeing their love for Carleigh with happy and sad tears shed that day will always give me chills.
Losing someone is never easy especially at an occasion like a wedding where family is gathered together. David, his mom, and his sisters were so strong even though their dad & husband had just passed away. I know that they were so happy to gain a daughter and sister but I know he was missed!
Their first look also had me tearing up because Carleigh gave David the sweetest gift- a handkerchief with the sweetest note!! They shared a first look because their ceremony was going to start after dark and I am so glad they did because their portraits are my favorite part of the day!!
Even with it being January and freezing cold the portrait locations at the Plantation on Sunnybrook are so beautiful! We didn’t have too much time to explore the entire property but the bridal suite and garden areas are so beautiful! I can only imagine how beautiful this venue is during the warmer months!
I am so blessed to have worked with these two and can’t wait to visit them in Illinois soon!! Enjoy reliving David & Carl’s winter wedding at the Plantation on Sunnybrook in Roanoke, Virginia.
