Catholic Wedding Hunting Hills Country Club | Roanoke Wedding Photographer
This wedding day turned out a lot differently than what Carly initially inquired for us to capture. Unfortunately, the pandemic restrictions took it’s tole on their plans and forced Carly & Alex to change not only their reception venue, but their ceremony venue too! They were originally having their ceremony in the beautiful and iconic church in Downtown Roanoke: St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church. But due to renovations on the inside, the wedding had to be moved to Our Lady of Nazareth Roman Catholic Church. While their new location offered great backdrops I knew Carly & Alex had dreamed of having portraits done with their church.
So we met the video team and these two at St. Andrews for some of my favorite portraits ever!!! And there are so many elements that make their header photo above so incredible. If you changed her veil to a small fingertip length veil or swopped out her epic ball gown for a mermaid style dress, it loses its fairytale look. And when Carly first talked about doing portraits at this church a shot like this is exactly what I imagined. I am so grateful we had enough time to head to St. Andrews for their newly-wed portraits because like I said, they are some of my favorite portraits of all time!!
I also love that Carly incorporated her childhood love of dressing up like Disney princesses into her bridal look!! Seriously she looked absolutely gorgeous and I could tell by Alex’ reaction that he thought the same thing!! I used to play dress up with my Disney dresses when I was little too! My favorite Disney princess was always Belle and Carly’s bridal look reminded me so much of her!! Maybe that’s why I love these photos?! 🙂
Now since she had this massive gown, if you are bride reading this, you can imagine how the rest of the evening would go wearing this large gown. Well Carly had a secret to reveal during the reception!! She found another dress to show off and dance the night away. She even wore it during their golden hour portraits to give those photos an entirely different look. If I could go back in time, I would definitely wear a ball gown for all my portraits and change into a reception dress to party!
James and I seriously loved working the team Carly & Alex put together for their day! All of the vendors involved went above and beyond to make this day spectacular. I can honestly say that because of this, their gallery is one of my favorites yet!! Check out all the vendors at the end of the post and enjoy scrolling through my favorites for the day!
PS: You don’t wanna miss quite possibly my favorite exit shot of all time & a surprise detail shot of their getaway car!!!
