Virginia Farm Engagement Session | Virginia Wedding Photographer
This classic Virginia farm engagement session will definitely be one for me to remember. The first few minutes of engagement sessions are always so intimidating for me because at that point in time I have only chatted over the phone/email with my couple and we most likely haven’t met in person. So for me, it is so important to be professional, fun, and not awkward when we first meet. These two lucked out because for this session I broke the ice by having a slight (not so slight) freak out moment!
When I first arrived to their farm I met up with Danielle so I could have a tour of the property. We were walking and talking when all of the sudden the large stick 3 feet in front of me MOVED! Ya’ll I m not fond of snakes. AT. ALL. Danielle, on the other hand, was not fazed by the snake at all and called Kevin over to take care of it. So here comes Kevin, our knight in shining armor, to save the day! Seriously though, that was the manliest thing I have ever seen at the beginning of an engagement session!! He grabbed a pitch fork and in no time saved us all! I guess it had not been their first encounter with a snake on the farm? Either way I was seriously impressed and already loved them both even more for not liking snakes! Haha!
As exciting as that was, it was so cool to see their farm in action! I have never considered myself to be a “city girl” but I felt a bit like that while visiting their farm. I loved seeing how things were planted and done up close and personal (check out my photos below)! Exploring this beautiful property was one of my favorite things about this session. Danielle took me around for a tour and I just couldn’t get enough it! I could talk to her for HOURS but then we would have to pick another date for photos and bless her heart we didn’t want to do that again (our session kept getting postponed due to rain).
We started out by their barns and TWO ponds that reminded me of the plantations in Charleston, SC. The light was amazing by the ponds and they planned ahead by cutting down the grass by the water just for photos! Kevin also perfectly placed a HUGE tractor in a freshly cut spot for photos Danielle had in mind (how sweet right?!). I know engagement sessions are not a favorite activity for guys but Kevin was the sweetest and did so much work preparing for this session!
During their outfit change I took some close up macro shots of Danielle’s beautiful ring! Ya’ll know James specializes in ring shots so whenever I am in charge of taking those photos I always feel some pressure to impress James (is that silly?? Probably…). I even grabbed Kevin’s hat for a few to include the snake slayer in the detail shots. I knew that his hat was important to him since he wore it with both outfits! I love it when my couples use some of my helpful tips to create such a beautiful cohesive look for their photos. Danielle’s outfit, complete with nice leather boots, just made this whole session perfect! The second half of our time together, we drove to another part of their property that had silos!! So of course we had to take some photos there! They changed into cutest “Old South” t-shirts and we finished up with some creative shots right as the sun set. Oh and just in case you were wondering, we didn’t run into another snake! 🙂
Enjoy a few of my favorites from this Virginia farm engagement session!
Until next time,
Emily
