Sunrise Virginia Tech Engagement Session | Blacksburg Wedding Photographer

So let me start this out by saying: I am a morning person one day a year… Christmas morning! Any time before or after Christmas it is rare that I am up before 6:30am. When we first booked with these two they told me how they met and how many memories they had at Virginia Tech. As a fellow Hokie, I loved their sweet love story! It made sense for us to plan their session at Virginia Tech’s campus because that is where they fell in love and Mitch graduated from Virginia Tech from their Engineering Program.

They live on the other side of Virginia now so they wanted to combine their engagement session with a reunion with their friends before the Virginia Tech vs UNC Homecoming game. So the only time we could do their session was at…. SUNRISE! As you can imagine, I was thrilled to hear that I would have to wake up well before 6am to make it to Blacksburg by sunrise. Haha!

We pulled up and some nice Cadets let us park in one of the lots for a few minutes so that we could start at the Duck Pond. Ya’ll my mind has been changed completely about sunrise sessions. This early (cold) morning was so refreshing and the light was AMAZING! The Duck Pond had this romantic fog adding a special touch to these willow tree portraits and my heart could not be more happy. I am so thankful these two had such good attitudes about getting up early and standing in the cold for a few hours with us! At the Duck Pond I mentioned doing more sunrise sessions and Mariah informed me of the dirty look I got from James who was standing behind me haha! I’m not a morning person but James is 100% a night owl so he detests mornings more than me!!

The other location of choice was the iconic Burruss Hall. I have no understanding of construction or engineering but I appreciate beautiful buildings with the intricate details that went into the design!! I may be biased but I love all the Hokie stone around campus. It’s just the classic look and feel that really made these two pop in these Virginia Tech engagement photos! We took them to the ledge with flowers in front of the building for some shots and Mitch taught me a new architecture term!! I think I said something like  “stand on the top of the ledge thing up there” but its actually called “coping”. So from now on I will use the correct term! Haha!

If it were not homecoming, I was going to see if we could sneak into Lane Stadium for some shots. Since it was game day we decided it against it. That’s on my bucket list though!! So if you are a newly engaged couple and want your engagement session at Virginia Tech, message me!!! J I wish I could clone these two because James and I had so much fun with them. We love connecting with our couples because it makes our job so much easier capturing their personalities and love for each other! They are getting married in Roanoke at Charter Hall this winter so sadly, I don’t have much time with them. I can’t wait to for Mariah’s bridal portraits in DC this December!!

Enjoy a few of our favorites from this sunrise engagement session at Virginia Tech!

Side note: That was the best Virginia Tech Homecoming game ever! 6 overtimes later our Hokies were victories over the Tarheels! Only the true fans stayed till the end in that cold rain! Totally worth it!!

Until next time,

Emily
