This past weekend we made our way back to our hometown of Roanoke, VA for not one but TWO weddings!! Will and Melissa started us off with such a fun and relaxed wedding day. We had never photographed the well known Presbyterian Fincastle church before or their reception venue, Barn at Back Creek but we were so excited to explore both. We started the day at their family home with one of the best views around town!! We just had to use it as a back drop for their first look and portraits!

One of my favorite parts of the day was spending time on her beautiful bridal details with the new Canon’s newest mirrorless camera the R6. I won’t bore you with my opinions on this newest camera except to say that I am OBSSESSED with the quality and sharpness of these detail shots!!! Especially the shot of Will’s William and Mary class ring. My favorite color is teal so you can probably guess that I was obsessed with her shoes.

We also talked about including her dad in a very special way through his marine pins so he could be there in spirit that day. Her mom was so sweet to find each pin in the floral bouquets and chat with me as I photographed her details. She also told me about the special necklace Melissa had that has been in her family for generations! So I made sure to get a few different shots of this special piece of jewelry.

Their first look was so sweet and once they had a few moments together, their fur baby Poppy joined us for photos! I love it when our couples include their fur babies because I too am a dog person!! 🙂 And until I have children they really will be my “children” haha! Poppy did so well and even joined the reception. I don’t think our dogs could have handled being around guests like Poppy did!

Will and Melissa also had a reception entrance like non other!! I have seen bubbles used as an exit but never an entrance! The guests LOVED this and it made for some really fun memories! Seriously it was so much fun and unique!! Their reception space was decorated so well with their anchor theme and the detail that went into the planning to make sure everyone could enjoy their reception safely was amazing!

I could tell by the several speeches that these two are so loved by their friends and family and we enjoyed how relaxing this reception was! Outside dance floors are becoming very popular amongst our COVID weddings and they are so much fun!! The string lights at the Barn at Back Creek provided the perfect feel for this dance floor.

Will and Melissa definitely made my sailboat dreams comes true and I am so excited to share a sneak peek into their wedding day at the Barn at Back Creek!

Planning: This was our first wedding working with Melissa of Sweet Bliss by Melis. Melissa did a fantastic job keeping everyone on schedule and putting together all the details for this wedding. She was very informative during the wedding day which made my job, as the wedding photographer, 1000% easier.

I don’t know how she did it but every time I needed her for something she was right there or close by ready to help. That is just what an experienced planner does I suppose?? I am so appreciative of her hard work Saturday and enjoyed working along side of her. I hope to work with her again soon and cannot recommend her enough!

Catering & Dessert: James and I were so excited to work with this talented catering team again!! James and I have a vendor guide for our couples and we only recommend vendors that we have personally worked with and love! There is a reason Blue Ridge Catering is on our list!! We enjoy working with this team because they are polite, hard workings, and do an exceptional job for our couples! As usual, everything was divine and we loved the cutest little mini pies Will and Melissa chose for their desserts!!
