Styled Shoot Series | Charlottesville Wedding Photographer
When I was in school, I never considered myself to be an “artist”, I’ve always preferred math and science. I actually remember being in art class making this truly awful clay angel (that was very deformed haha) and feeling like I was failing no matter how hard I tried. I remember thinking to myself that I absolutely do NOT have an artistic bone in my body. And that story I made up about myself held pretty strong for years.
So fast forward to being a newly-wed back in 2015 when James gave me a Nikon camera (we have switched to Canon since then haha). I remember feeling very out of place and thinking “Am I the best person to be capturing this family session? I am a left brain, type-A, very realistic person and NOT artistic in any way”. I just wanted to be with my new husband and share an interest he had had for 10+ years!!
It’s taken me a few years into learning photography to actually feel like a true artist! I put so much pressure on myself to take the perfectly styled photos for our clients but, honestly, that’s not what my photography is about. It’s about showcasing the love between my couples, capturing the beginning of their family legacy, serving them on their wedding day, and delivering a gallery that represents all the imperfect, fun, and candid moments of their day.
Don’t get me wrong…. I do enjoy an aesthetically pleasing perfectly styled photo haha! But one of the things that has really made me accept and grow to love my more artistic side is styling bridal details. The process behind creating these elaborate layouts truly amaze me!! They require lots of time & thought to perfect the lay out, spacing between all the elements, adding pops of color, and balancing all the elements to create a eye catching image!
When Mallory, of All the Dainty Details, reached out wanting to create beautifully styled flat lays I was beyond excited!!! Because as soon as I discovered Mallory and her little corner of the wedding planning world, I knew I had to work with her! She has such a keen eye for detail and I have really enjoyed getting to know her and following her business the last few months (peep a few behind the scenes photos of her in action below!!)
She has such a big heart for her couples and fellow wedding vendors- which is just refreshing after a year like 2020!! For all of my Charlottesville brides especially, I cannot recommend this lady enough!!! I can almost guarantee you won’t find another Charlottesville wedding planner who works as hard and intentionally as she does!!- which is why she is in my updated vendor guide that all my brides receive!!
This shoot will always be one to remember for me since this was my first shoot as a FULL TIME wedding photographer! So enjoy a few of my favorites from this Charlottesville Spring Inspired Flat Lay Shoot!
