Venues Mini Series | Roanoke Wedding Photographer
In this venue mini series I am going to share my favorite venues for bright and colorful wedding day photos in different areas of Virginia and my favorite place on earth, Charleston, SC! Last week I started with our quaint little town of Lynchburg, VA with a few local venues that I have been dying to photograph and ones that I feel offer beautiful and unique portrait opportunities!!
TECHNICALLY speaking, tone of these venues is outside of Roanoke but it is close enough to include it in this post! If you missed my 5 Favorite Lynchburg Wedding Venues check that post out here!
This week I am sharing my top 5 favorite Roanoke Virginia wedding venues. James and I actually grew up in Roanoke and spent most of our dating years there! We also chose our wedding venue in Roanoke over 5 years ago! Wow it doesn’t seem like that long ago… We have had several couples book the same venue we did and we always have a special love for those wedding days! Talk about all the feels!!
There are some really beautiful wedding venues in Roanoke but I am excited to highlight these top 5 on my list! As always I will link to their websites so you can check out these stunning properties and schedule a tour!! Enjoy some of my favorite Roanoke, Virginia wedding venues!
Sundara
We are starting with one of my favorite venues we photographed this past season during the fall!! The mountain view and stunning fall colors are easily making my top 5 today. This venue has a private porch right next the bridal suite as well as plenty of windows in the suite for photos. So rain or shine this porch would be beautiful for bridal portraits and bridesmaids portraits.
I love all that this venue has to offer and Cari, the planner is on top of everything for her couples. Your guests and the party are all in one spot so everyone is included in the fun and reception events. It also makes it easy for James and I to capture special moments throughout the night since everyone is together. The tent receptions are my favorite as well for lighting purposes which is another great thing about this Roanoke wedding venue!
We photographed our first wedding there and with the rain and fading light we didn’t even get to use all the portrait spots for bride and groom portraits! So I can’t wait to head back to this Roanoke wedding venue in the years to come!

Belle Garden Estate
This beautiful estate wedding venue in Virginia has been on my dream list for quite some time! The aesthetic and over all feel of this estate is just everything I envision when I think of a classic elegant southern wedding. This venue is a little outside of Roanoke, Virginia but the drive is so worth it!
I am looking forward to the day James and I can work with our couples here at Belle Garden Estate and even though it is outside of our included travel we waive the travel fee for venues on our dream list!
Taubman Museum of Art
This venue is so unique for a Roanoke wedding venue! This is definitely for the modern artistic bride. The portrait locations with this venue offer beautiful views on the balcony, inside the museum, and the classic downtown shots are within walking distance of this venue. These different portrait locations are so unique and allows for a great variety in portraits.
We don’t photograph too many weddings in the downtown scene but downtown Roanoke offers so much for backdrops and is usually pretty easy to navigate during portraits. Some busier cities have too much traffic to get specific shots but this location is perfect if you are looking for a modern downtown theme for your wedding day. We haven’t photographed a wedding here yet but we can’t wait for the opportunity next year in 2021!
On the Glen at Glenburn Farms
This venue is so close to my heart because in May of 2015 James and I were married at this beautiful venue! It is more on the rustic side when you first see it (which isn’t necessarily the theme we wanted) but James and I fell in love with their high ceiling and panoramic view of the blue ridge mountains in the reception space. The views are incredible all around this HUGE farm of wedding venues (Braeloch & Boxtree Lodge are two other on this property!).
This venue also has the perfect rain plan with a large covered porch. This came in handy at one of our past weddings there because it rained most of the wedding day but we were able to still take photos since it was covered. That is so important to consider for your wedding day because we can’t control the weather.
My other favorite part of this venue is the dance floor!! This reception space has it all and is absolutely perfect for all your guests to be close to the dance floor and be a part of the party. If you love a more simplistic style modern rustic style this venue is for you!!

Charter Hall at the City Market Building
This is another downtown Roanoke venue and we have actually had the pleasure of photographing! This venue has so much to offer if you are looking for a modern downtown venue that has everything all in one place this is it!! This past winter we photographed our first wedding here and it is still one of my favorite weddings. The staff is incredibly helpful and professional keeping your wedding day on schedule and everything looking beautiful. They even flipped the ceremony setting into the reception all in the time it took me to photograph family formals! That’s quick ya’ll!!
The bridal suite at this venue is to die for as well! The pastel blue gives these photos a classic look to them and even matched the light blue theme our winter bride had for her day!! The portrait locations are endless because you are in the heart of downtown Roanoke. We can’t wait to photograph another wedding at this beautiful downtown Roanoke wedding venue!!
