We were so excited to explore a new venue! We love being inspired by new places especially one with a 360 view working a couple whom we absolutely love! We actually saw Michael and Caitlin a month ago in Grant & Kathryn’s wedding!! Caitlin & Kathryn switched places and I cannot even believe I’m saying this… but they also shared pretty much the same weather situation. This wedding at Walker Creek Barn started out with beautiful weather but this ceremony did not go as planned.. but we’ll get to that!
James is my weather man and we start looking at the weather 2 weeks before wedding days to see what we got to work with weather wise. And this wedding day had rain forecast almost every day leading up to it! I’m starting to feel like a jinx because quite literally every wedding this year except 2 weddings (and one was in Texas) has had rain. What are the odds of that?!
But Caitlin and Michael were so calm the entire day and went with the flow so well. And that is the secret to making it through storms and rain on wedding days!! The other secret is sharing a first look so that you have multiple opportunities for portraits with each other and your bridal party.
Thankfully they wanted to share a few moments together before the ceremony and they shared a first look. I was actually told by many that Michael was not going to cry or get emotional. Which is completely fine?! It makes me so sad when I hear people saying things like “he better cry when he sees you” or “if he doesn’t cry I’m going to turn around and walk away” etc. That is so much pressure on a person to do something that may not be how they’d react naturally. Surprisingly enough, Michael turned to see his wife and she took his breath away and had the sweetest reaction (he said it was an ugly cry haha).
Because they shared a first look we took all the bridal party and most of their family formals before the ceremony! I’m so glad we did because the skies were getting darker and darker for the ceremony. They continued to hold the ceremony outside but the rain started as soon as the music began. I immediately had flashbacks to our legendary rainy 2021 wedding at The Seclusion with Cory & Evan, if you missed that one please go back and see that blog post!
Right as they began to exchange the rings the skies opened up and everybody hopped up and ran to cover! It was WILD! Once everyone found a seat inside at their reception they continued the ceremony. That was definitely a team effort to move the ceremony (another reason you need to hire good vendors that can handle a situation like that!).
It didn’t stop raining for over an hour (all of cocktail hour basically) which took away our second opportunity for newlywed portraits. Because they shared a first look, we had so many beautiful portraits already so it didn’t matter too much especially since we had sunset portraits to come! And let me tell you, they earned this unique and breathtaking views at sunset!
