Vintage Fairytale Estate Wedding | Richmond Estate Wedding
This was our first trip out to this beautiful historical estate in New Kent, Virginia. Cumberland Estate has such a large array of backdrops, stunning river views, a quaint garden perfect for holding cocktail hour, and a photographer’s dream: White Pea Gravel! I remember Zeb and Rachel sharing their love of this venue at their engagement session and the moment we arrived I understood why they chose this historical property for their wedding day. They don’t make homes like they used to. Every inch of this historical estate shows character, hard work, and is loved so intentionally. Words that I would use to describe Zeb and Rachel as well.
These two Hokies fit in the EH Couples Family so well especially when things didn’t go as planned weather wise. It seems to be a 2022 wedding trend for the weather to be extra unpredictable. Rachel and I had so many plans to style and pose her in her extravagant designer dress from Ukraine. But the weird Virginia weather made sure to make things difficult. I’m so in love with the shots we did get though! Rachel’s designer gown is the largest dress I’ve ever photographed and it made me fall in love with the big beautiful ball gown wedding dresses even more!
The way it moved with the twirling shots and cascaded down the stairs at the ceremony really matched the estate fairytale vibe! We were even able to sneak out during the reception for both sunset photos and a private last dance in the dovecote. In fact, some of my favorite portraits with them from that day are at night!!! Which if you know me, that’s a rare thing for me say haha!
Also, if you are a future bride reaching this, I am about to share the coolest wedding day hack for a reception dress change! I highly recommend adding sleeves like Rachel did to her dress if you want a different look for your dress during the reception! Seriously those sleeves (along with her bustle) transformed her reception attire to look like a completely different dress! I’m so glad we got to take some photos with this second bridal look at sunset & for their special private dance.
