Spring Engagement Session in Blacksburg, Virginia | Blacksburg Wedding Photographer
For this engagement session I traveled over an hour away to the land of Hokies. Susan and I were in agreement that she wanted a scenic view of mountains (much like her wedding venue) for these photos. I searched all over Roanoke trying to think of places and she came up with the idea to try out Heritage Community Park in Blacksburg, Virginia.
So when I arrived at the park the 30% chance of rain was POURING (yeah… “30% chance”). I was honestly worried that the evening was ruined and we would have to reschedule but fortunately these two were adventurous and waited on the rain to stop. I am so glad they trusted me because after the rain finished up, the evening could not be more beautiful! The rain actually cooled it down some!
In all my years of exploring Blacksburg, I had never been to this park! It was absolutely beautiful and there were SO many spots for portraits. There were several old barns/buildings, silos, fields, a pond, and of course scenic mountain views! I try to pick 1-3 spots for each session so that my clients are not walking miles for their photos but there were so many great locations we just kept exploring!
I knew James and I would be the perfect match for them when they told me they chose On the Glen at Glenburn Farm for their wedding venue. That is the same venue we were married at back in May of 2015. As we walked to each new spot we discussed our love for all things Fixer Upper, shiplap, and house renovations. I know it all sounds so adult-y and it has nothing to do with photography but I love hearing about my couple’s hobbies and personal life! When we connect on a more personal level I think it helps create a calming presence on their wedding day.
James and I may be calling Susan and Michael for ideas as we refinish our kitchen and basement, because from the sounds of it their kitchen is a DREAM! These two work so hard serving our community through their professions and still have time for house projects, caring for friends and family, AND wedding planning. It’s just amazing to me!! Susan and her planner Holly Davis are so on top of everything for the wedding! It makes my detailed planning heart happy! 🙂
I always send an email full of tips for the engagement session and I absolutely love it when my clients blend my tips with their personalities. I don’t want all my couples to dress the same but I know that some of my recommendations can help point them in the right direction. These two were spot on with their outfits!! I loved that even with her elegant flow-y dress and his classy dress shoes, they wanted to climb into a field of tall very wet grass for their photos. That is pure dedication and I couldn’t be more proud to be their wedding photographer! I seriously don’t know how I get so lucky with the best couples!
