Spring Front Porch Wedding | Richmond Wedding Photographer
Where do I begin with this sweet wedding. First of all, let’s address the INCREDIBLE response from our communities to help LIVE stream their wedding!! Seriously guys, what an incredible humbling experience. In order to live stream their wedding day my YouTube channel required 1,000 subscribers and we had 3 days to get there. Guys. We did it in 2 days!!! Seriously I didn’t think it was possible but our community cam together and beat the deadline!!! Because of this support, we were able to live stream it for all their friends and family to be a part of their day. Right now, we have had over 2,000 combined views of their wedding day and I am so glad that we were able to help.
Secondly, it was a true pleasure to see how much their parents and siblings loved these two. Jake & Cheryl went above and beyond to turn their gorgeous home into a wedding venue! They even built a beautiful dock on their pond just for portraits!! Which we definitely took advantage of!! The mountain laurel blooms along with their landscaping provided perfect portrait locations for Nathan and Elena. James worked a little more than usual behind the scenes helping them with the live streaming, audio, and other tech-y things but everything really came together. I am still so proud of our team and Elena’s dad Jake for putting everything together!
As we were taking her bridal detail photos, Elena was able to FaceTime her bridesmaids as she put on her makeup! These girls from all across the states came together (as best they could since they couldn’t be there) and I can tell that Elena loved seeing them on the wedding day. Their cheerful spirits and energy made the bridal suite feel like any other wedding day. They were so excited to see Elena in her dress so, since they were FaceTiming her, why not do a first look with them??? So we did! We did a countdown and turned the Ipad around so they could see her! James actually took some screen shots of their reactions so Elena could have those to remember this sweet moment. It really did feel like they were in the room with us!
The COVID restrictions forced her brother to stay at his base but fortunately he was able to FaceTime during the reception! I thought it was so sweet they displayed his boots in his chair for the ceremony so he was there in spirit. That is another reason I was so glad we were able to live stream their day!
So my favorite part of this wedding day was the full hour of portraits we had with them!! I know their wedding day was supposed to be at the beautiful Main Street Station in Richmond, Virginia but Georgetown Crest was definitely a good call!! The mountain laurels, that huge dock by the pond, the large front porch, and the landscaping provided beautiful backdrops! It also helped that these two are incredible in front of the camera! I love it when my couples do some “fun” poses like when he picked her up for a few!! – Those are some of my favorites!!
The other good thing about an entire hour with these two for portraits was James and I were able to get CREATIVE with shots! There is one in particular with the reflection in the water that is just beautiful! James did so good!! Shots like that only happen when James and I feel that the “final gallery necessities” are covered. Every wedding day we try to provide different poses and composition so our couples have so many options. However, some weddings we don’t have time to get creative because of limited portrait time (no first look) or bad weather.
Nathan and Elena’s wedding day will always be special for us!! We are so blessed to know these two and can’t wait to follow their story as they move across the states in a few weeks.

Vendor Highlights:
This spring front porch wedding in Richmond, Virginia featured some amazing vendors and the links to their websites are below!
Florist: Vogue Flowers did a beautiful job on the floral arrangements! Elena’s bouquet was gorgeous and I loved photographing the unique flowers and greenery! The little blue thistles were my favorite part and the perfect accent of blue to match Nathan’s military uniform.
Catering: A Sharper Palate This talented catering team transformed this intimate back porch reception into an elegant dining experience. Each course was divine and their staff made sure everyone (including my wedding photography team) was served and never ran out of water. The Saffron Risotto and Lamb was out of this world amazing!! I was also impressed they adapted their workflow and prep work to use the kitchen at Georgetown Crest (The bride’s home). Using someone else’s space and ovens can be tricky and this team just blew us away!!
