On the Glen at Glenburn Farms Wedding | Roanoke Wedding Photographer

Our last 2019 wedding has come and gone so quickly. I have so enjoyed spending time with these joyful souls, Michael and Susan. I had such an immediate connection with Susan when she inquired with me. She is a woman after my own heart which made planning super easy! In fact, literally EVERYTHING went perfectly for their engagement session, planning, all the details, vendors, etc. So of course its going to RAIN on their wedding day. Did I mention she bought a ring box and ribbon so I could play around with her details?! Serious she is the BEST!!!

We have dealt with rain before on wedding days and ya know some weddings are harder to overcome this challenge because there are not places that are covered for photos. However, this venue is so perfect for everything. I am a bit biased because we chose the same venue almost 5 years ago for our wedding.

The back porch area provided just enough space for their first look, bridal party, and some bride & groom portraits. So they were still able to get some beautiful portraits despite the rain. In fact, you can’t even tell it’s raining in most of these shots!!

I knew Susan and Michael wanted that stunning view for not just their ceremony but their portraits too. Susan wore her mother’s cathedral length veil and wanted those beautiful epic veil shots!

So I knew that was a “must have” shot for us to get.

I seriously felt like I was in constant prayer all day just praying the rain would stop for even 5-10 minutes. That doesn’t sound like enough time for portraits (its really not ideal) but that small window is all we would need to get those scenic bride and groom portraits with her veil flowing.

Right as we finished all of bridal party photos, the rain stopped!! It was a wedding day miracle and that’s all we needed to speed through portraits. I am just thankful they remembered their engagement session posing tips because as we would have wasted precious time explaining poses going through these portraits.

Another one of my favorites parts and memories of this day was their first look. Michael’s reaction made me and my assistant Mariana tear up! There is nothing like seeing the love of your life on your wedding day. Michael was a little nervous before the ceremony but spending this precious time with Susan calmed both their nerves and for a moment they forgot it was raining! I will never forget their sweet tears and letters to each other.

I also wanted to say that first looks are not always popular for weddings these days because couples are afraid they will lose “the moment” walking down the isle. Despite popular belief that is not the case! In fact, Susan and Michael had happy tears and sweet moments 2 different times on their wedding day because they shared a first look. Sharing a private moment with each other is honestly what most couples need on the wedding day.

Being the center of attention is not everyone’s cup of tea so this time with each other helps with the nerves that comes along with being a bride and groom. The look on Michael’s face as Susan walked to him during their first look says it all. *Cue the tears*

These memories and moments on the wedding day are why I love what I do. Seeing the pure joy and excitement between Michael and Susan reminded me of our wedding back in 2015. We had our first look in the same spot at the same venue and I had just all the emotions hitting me at once!

It was a pleasure to work with their families and friends. It may have been rainy and cold on this fall wedding day but that did stop everyone from having fun! James had a blast with the guys and even took an all time favorite dancing photo! It was of Michael and his dad, Paul. Oops, I mean Paul, wait no.. Is it Mark? It’s either Mark or Paul. Maybe I should ask James?? HAHA!

Anyways, Susan and Michael’s wedding was a beautiful day and I so enjoyed working with some new faces! I am working on creating a guide to forming your very own “Wedding Dream Team” and you bet I added some talented individuals to that list from this past weekend! As always, I included the vendor team at the very end of this post so please check them out!!

I am so sad to say that my 2019 wedding season has come to an end. I have made so many wonderful friends and am so grateful for the support and love from my couples and their families! Please enjoy my favorite images from this Roanoke wedding at On the Glen at Glenburn Farms.

PS: I included the sweet little “Tiny Humans” corner where the little kiddos were playing. Susan has such a huge heart for children. I thought it was special for her to dedicate an entire area of her reception to them!! So make sure to check that out! I also included a photo of the corner after the kids left… by the looks of it, I’d say they had fun!!
