Rustic Barn Venue with a Mountain View | LEXINGTON, VIRGINIA WEDDING
We made our way up the winding roads to our favorite Virginia wedding venue, The Seclusion! This wedding is probably the most unique wedding we’ve ever photographed to date. It’s full of tradition, legacy, and intentional gifts to spoil and love not only their bridal party, but vendors too! It’s our most unique wedding because this was our first ever Monday wedding! YUP! A Monday wedding! And let me tell ya, it was the strangest feeling waking up on a day I used to dread working a 9-5 job only to be getting ready for a wedding!
In fact, it was such a shock to my system that last weekend I woke up a few times in the middle of the night thinking we totally missed the wedding. If you are a photographer or even a wedding vendor, you probably relate to having nightmares about this very thing… And you may be thinking, why would anyone ever get married on a Monday? Well there is a back story to this decision… get your tissues ready!
Dion’s brother passed away a few years ago but his birthday was April 25th. So to celebrate and honor his brother they wanted to get married on the same day. Which leads me to Nadia’s legacy of giving & loving others so well. She not only hand selected a gift for each of her girls, a gift for Julie (the best wedding planner ever!!), a gift for James and I (Just wait for that photo, I’m sharing it below!!), she also had a custom gift made for her husband to be. It was a pair of cuff links with Dion’s brother’s name engraved on them. And even as I type this I am getting chills from picturing those photos James got in my mind. Dion was not expecting that by his reaction, that gift had him in tears. I’m so glad James was there to get those photos of Dion & his brother Kenny because those were beautiful candid moments!!
This wedding was more traditional for their ceremony in two ways! One, they chose to not share a first look and save those moments for their ceremony. And two, they chose to participate in an old tradition called “Jumping the Broom” (learn more about that tradition HERE). That was such a fun way to tie in their heritage, share their legacy, and celebrate their new marriage.
The Seclusion is always so beautiful and offers so many backdrops! James and I were looking forward to incorporating some of Nadia & Dion’s favorite backdrops for photos including the unique corner of mirrors, the classic view of the mountains, and the walkway leading up to the new doors! And Nadia surprised her guests by changing into a fun and dance ready jumpsuit during the reception! I could tell she felt more free to move around and dance the night away!! So if you are a bride reading this and you wanna dance the entire night, consider switching into a fun reception dress or jumpsuit! I love how fun and unique their sunset photos are because of this outfit change!
Please enjoy looking through my favorite moments from this traditional spring wedding at The Seclusion in Lexington, Virginia!
