We are back at the iconic Seclusion in Lexington, Virginia! We will be here a few times this year but I’m extremely excited to share more from this spring wedding because it’s the first Seclusion wedding in a few years that hasn’t rained on the wedding day!!! You read that right! It actually felt a little strange not planning for rain that day. And I’m so glad it didn’t because the sunset views really are worth the entire experience!!
Kayla and Corey decided on a traditional timeline for their day which ended up working out perfectly timeline wise! We had more time than usual for some more unique bridal portraits of Kayla in one of the coziest nooks at a venue I’ve seen! This seating area with mirrors is so beautiful so I’m glad she was up for some more portraits than I normally get in this space!
While we waited on the boys to get ready for photos (the girls beat them getting ready) we grabbed some more stylized photos with the ladies! Her bridesmaids were so much fun to hang out with all morning! They were so efficient and calm in the bridal suite jamming to some Tswift! Speaking of Taylor Swift, don’t miss Kayla’s custom tumblr in her bridal details!!
I had the best time playing around with her sage colored wedding invitation and wild flowers!! I get so inspired by bridal details, that’s why I start the day with them actually!! The more creative and inspired I get, I find that reflects in my work the rest of the wedding day!! So if you’ve ever wondered why photographers focus on details, that’s a reason why!!
We’ve worked many rustic and elegant weddings at The Seclusion but we’ve never had a sunset quite like this one to photograph our couple in front of!!! This is easily one of my favorite Seclusion photos we’ve ever taken!! I bet you can’t guess whose photo it is??- James or Emily!
While there were some things Kayla and Corey had to navigate before their ceremony and during cocktail hour, I’m pretty happy with how everything turned out!! I bet you would never have known her dress actually ripped during cocktail hour if I hadn’t have told you!! The iconic sunset photo with Corey lifting her was taken after her bustle ripped (someone stepped in to pin and sew up the hole)! But you can’t even tell in their golden hour portraits! It worked out though because Kayla had a surprise dress change during the reception to dance the night away in!
I know we always want our wedding days to be perfect but when something does go wrong, I’m glad our couples are flexible and able to still have fun despite what’s happened!! I’m grateful for their carefree and laid back personalities navigating some problems that day. It was truly an honor to be by their side that day and a part of their story in this way!! I’m so sad it’s all over because we will miss working with these two!!
