An Elegant Downtown Wedding at The Virginian Hotel in Lynchburg, Virginia.
I don’t think I have ever worked in crazier conditions on a wedding day. And that’s saying something because we have photographed an entire outdoor ceremony in a downpour and a wedding day as cold as 15 degrees! And Jessica & Michael were so kind and patient to push through the challenging weather to get their downtown portraits at the iconic Virginian Hotel.
But the day started with rain and as Jessica put on her wedding dress, snow started falling outside the window!! So that changed our original plans for their first look location. Luckily the Skyline, at the top of The Virginian Hotel offered the perfect covered and warm spot for these two to have a few moments together. We were even able to sneak out for some bonus rooftop portraits- the ones we all really wanted- as the snow so graciously paused.
There were also 4 different first looks at this Virginian Hotel wedding! Jessica wanted to surprise her bridesmaids, her dad & brother, the groomsmen, and her *almost* husband with her bridal look! And every first look (except the groomsmen) had tears involved. In fact, Jessica’s reaction to her first look with dad and brother had almost as many tears as the one with Michael!!
It was the sweetest set of first looks! After Jess and Michael read their notes we had a few minutes to wait out the snow falling and they had a private moment outside together and the photos you’ll see we took through the window are those candid photos! But you’d never know it because they look posed!! I told Jess I was so proud of her natural poses and she said they’d been practicing haha!
We had such a great time at this wedding working with this group of bridal party again and have so many memories from this winter wedding at the Virginian Hotel! As a bonus, during the reception we got a very special (to me) photo of the 3 and a half (Jacob was missing, sorry Savannah) Emily Hancock Couples!!
My record group shots has been 4 couples at one wedding and we might could break that record with another wedding from this group of friends!!! But these couples got married in 2022 (Jess & Michael), 2021 (Jacob & Savannah), 2020 (Joe & Bobie), and 2017 (Allen & Crystal)!!! And I have to brag on my girl Bobie for doing an amazing job coordinating this day! It’s always fun working with my past brides at other weddings and I’m so glad Bobie & Savannah have started their own businesses!! I’m updating my vendor guide right now and you already know they made the list!!!
